Last Sunday, my sister-cousin and her two sons lost everything in a house fire. The first thing she said to me afterwards is “all that materialistic bullshit means nothing. I’m just glad my kids are okay.”
She is right that her most important treasures are safe and sound. However, this type of devastation and loss can destabilize a family for generations. They have lost tens of thousands of dollars in clothing, electronics, appliances, and home furnishings, in addition to so many memories.
Her brother has created a Go Fund Me to support the first practical steps in this process of rebuilding a new start for her and her family.
